Some lone parents in pilot areas will have to take part in a work-focused interview four times a year. These are lone parents who have been entitled to income support for at least a year and are not deemed incapable of work. Their youngest child must be aged twelve or over on 30 September.
The areas covered by the pilot are the local education authority areas of Bradford, Greenwich, Haringey, Leicester, Leicestershire, Lewisham, Sandwell and Torfaen, and the education authority areas of Aberdeenshire and Fife.
All lone parents entitled to income support in the remaining parts of the UK must have an interview with a personal adviser. This is a condition of their entitlement. The age of their children is irrelevant. Usually, interviews are arranged every year.
