New measures were introduced in pilot areas in October to help lone parents return to work.
The Work Search Premium provides £20 extra a week to lone parents who have been on income support for at least a year, are on the New Deal for Lone Parents and are actively seeking work. The areas are Bradford, Cardiff and Vale, Central and West London, Dudley and Sandwell, Edinburgh, Lothians and Borders, Lancashire West, Leicestershire and Staffordshire.
In-Work Credit provides an extra £40 a week for the first year of a new job of at least 16 hours a week to lone parents who have been receiving income support or jobseeker's allowance for twelve months or more and have been on the New Deal for Lone Parents. The pilot areas are Bradford, Cardiff and Vale, Central, North, South-East and West London, Dudley and Sandwell, Edinburgh, Lothians and Borders, Lancashire West, Leeds, Leicestershire and Staffordshire.
Finally, the In Work Emergencies Fund is available to help lone parents meet costs during the first 60 days of a new job of 16 hours or more a week where they have previously been on the New Deal for Lone Parents or continuously claiming benefits for 26 weeks or more. The pilot areas are Birmingham, Bradford, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London and Manchester.
