The Motability scheme is one of the main sources of help for disabled people with mobility problems. The sceme enables people who are receiving Disability Living Allowance (mobility component) to use the benefit to hire or purchase a vehicle

There have been several changes to the Motability scheme. The main change is that when people enter into a vehicle contract hire agreement, their disability living allowance award needs to last only for a further twelve months. Previously, the award had to run for at least a further three years and eight weeks so that it covered the length of the agreement.
