A fund has been set up to compensate people who were abused as children or young people while resident in orphanages, industrial schools or centres for young offenders in the Republic of Ireland between the 1920s and 1980s. Many of these survivors now live in the UK.
These abuse survivors can apply to the Residential Institutions Redress Board before the closing date in December 2005. Awards granted so far range from £8,000 to £153,000. The free telephone number for legal advice and help with applying is 0845 606 6115.
