Alcohol licences

01 February 2005

From 1 February, under the Licensing Act 2003, the application procedure for alcohol licences changed. The licensing authority is now the local authority instead of the licensing justices. A new licence, a premises licence, covers all premises serving alcohol. The provision of entertainment and refreshment late at night are also covered. A club premises certificate is also necessary, whilst certain one-off events are covered by temporary event notices.

Existing licences under the previous licensing regime remain valid until later in 2005, when further provisions of the Act come into force.
