Asylum seekers

16 February 2005

The Immigration and Nationality Directorate (IND) has changed the procedure for some, if not all, asylum seekers arriving at airports in north-west England.

Under the new procedure, asylum seekers may not be given a statement of evidence form (SEF). Instead, they may immediately be given a date for their asylum interview and then a decision on their claim just one week after the interview.

If asylum is refused, the IND should refer them to a specialist adviser automatically.
