In England and Wales, professionals other than lawyers can now charge for doing probate work.
They must be members of a professional body which is approved by the Department for Constitutional Affairs and which meets key criteria such as having a complaints procedure.
So far, only the Council for Licensed Conveyancers and the Institute for Legal Executives have expressed an interest in doing this work.
