From 1 April, a new agency, Her Majesty's Court Service, is responsible for civil and criminal courts below the House of Lords. For most users this change will have little impact.
A new computer system is in operation in some Crown Courts, for example, Bristol and Taunton. The system will be national by the end of March 2006. It will be possible to call witnesses to court by a text message. You will be able to check the current status of a criminal trial by looking on the internet at www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/xhibit/court_list.htm.
